Just When You Thought Music-Based TV Couldn’t Get Any Cheaper and Cheesier…

Let’s be honest: shows like American Idol and The Voice are nothing more than karaoke competitions. Dancing with the Stars is based on sheer narcissism and the audience’s hope that someone is going to make a giant ass of themselves. This is cheap programming that produces little (if any) art of substance. We couldn’t possible get any lower, could we?

Why, yes. Yes, we can.

Introducing Lip Sync Battle, a new show on Spike that will debut on April 2. The premise is simple: line up a bunch of stars and have them lip sync their way through songs. Hosted by LL Cool J–does the dude need the money?–a sneak peak shows Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson lip syncing to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.”

Other stars confirmed for the show include John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway and, er, John Legend.
