Lemmy of Motörhead has his own statue

Lemmy Kilmister, the legendary frontman of Motörhead is about to get his own statue in his hometown of Burslem in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Plans for the 2.25 metre bronze sculpture began in 2024 and is finally ready for its unveiling this coming week (May 9), the day after the world celebrates Motörhead Day.

Attending the ceremony will be Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell. His job will to place a portion of Lemmy’s ashes in the statue. There will also be a “21-rev salute,” the nature of which is unclear, but I expect it involves motorcycles and/or cars.

Andy Edwards, the sculptor, fashioned the statue of out of local clay. He did a nice job, right down to the details on the Rickenbacker 4001 in Lemmy’s hands. You can read the interview he gave to the BBC here.
