Let’s check on the Canadian sales battle between CDs and vinyl

First, we need to tackle something about vinyl says. Luminate release some data earlier this week that indicated vinyl sales in the US had dropped by 33% this year. That is not true. Sales are actually up by 6.2%. And as you’ll see, they’re up by a lot more than that in Canada.

  • Total CD sales in Canada last week: 31,265 (up 11.8% from the previous week)
  • Total vinyl sales in Canada last week: 31,495 (up 18.0% from the previous week and the first week I can remember where vinyl outsold CDs)
  • CDs sold in all of Canada so far this year: 1,295,043 (down 11.9% from this time last year)
  • Vinyl sold across Canada sold this year: 1,146,643 (up a whopping 30.6% from a year ago)

Canadian streaming stats? Sure.

  • On-demand audio streams last week: 2,776,875,025 (up 0.7% from last week)
  • On-demand audio streams so far this year: 111.756,488,191
