Let’s look at the Canadian CDs vs. vinyl sale battle

There’s no other way to present it: Vinyl is kicking the CD’s ass in Canada. And with Record Store Day coming up this weekend, so vinyl’s lead is going to be extended.

  • CDs sold in Canada last week: 31,809 (that’s EXACTLY the same as last week! What are the odds?)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada last week: 37,606 (up 18.9% from a week ago)
  • CDs sold in Canada so far this year: 388,261 (up 2.1% from a year ago)
  • Vinyl sold in Canada so far this year: 429,321 (up 19.7% from this point in 2024)

Streaming numbers:

  • Songs streamed last week: 2,844,132,996 (basically unchanged from last week)
  • Songs streamed in Canada so far this year: 36,310,684,910 (up 5.9.0% from a year ago)
