Let’s talk about the upcoming Green Day movie that’s going to premiere in Toronto next month

A documentary? No, this is a full-on comedy film entitled New Years Rev, which the band describes as their “love letter to all our favourite road trip movies.” It’ll have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 12.

The movie follows three friends who somehow have the impression that their band, The Analog Dogs, have been offered the opening slot for a legendary punk rock trio (Green Day) for a New Year’s Eve show, and all they have to do is get to the gig in California from their home in Kansas. Spoiler: It’s all a prank.

The movie stars Mason Thames, Kyle Coffman, and Ryan Foust as the Analogy Dogs and is directed by Lee Kirk, who also wrote the screenplay. And there is a little documentary element to it because the inspiration for some of the plot goes back to some of Green Day’s early adventures. More than a dozen Green Day songs pepper the soundtrack.
