Liam Payne, ex of One Direction dead after falling from a building in Buenos Aires

At 5:04 pm local time in Buenos Aires, there was a 911 call from CasaSur, a hotel in the Palermo area, an upscale part of the city. At first, police were responding to worries about “an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol.” This person was causing a disturbance in the lobby, smashing a laptop and then had to be carried back to his room.

While assessing the situation, they heard a loud thump in the hotel’s interior courtyard. That’s when they found the body of ex One Direction singer on the ground. He’d apparently fallen about 14 or 15 metres (around 45 feet) from a third-floor balcony. His injuries were “extremely serious.” An ambulance arrived at 5:11 pm and immediately understood there was no chance of resusitating him. Payne was soon declared dead. He was 31 years old.

This was preceded by an emergency call by people at the hotel who told police that they were worried that Payne’s room had a balcony and that he “might do something.” When his room was investigated, a smashed TV was found.

Payne arrived in the city with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy on September 30 for a vacation and to see his onetime bandmate, Niall Horan, in concert. Kate left Argentina on Monday (October 14) while Liam stayed on, checking into CasaSur alone. There are stories saying that he was acting weird over the last while.

Liam had been open about his struggles with alcohol and addictions to prescription drugs which led to suicidal thoughts. He’s been “cycling through ruinous behavior” recently., Fans had their own concerns about his recent behavior.

Earlier this week, there were stories about Maya Henry, his ex-fiancée saying that he left her because he wanted her to get an abortion. Then there was the cease-and-desist order from her lawyers demanding that he stop all contact with her. (She had some interesting thoughts about Liam’s behavior, too.)

Did he fall? Did he jump? No one knows yet. Investigations continue.
