Limited Edition Vinyl: Some of It Is Weird–And Gross
What vinyl lover doesn’t love special limited editions? The weirder the better, of course.
This video from Gozer’s Den looks at a number of unusual limited edition releases that includes a reissue of Rush’s 2112 that creates a hologram when played, a 7” from punk band Drunk & Horny that features poop and fart scented scratch-and-sniffs, and the Flaming Lips’ Heady Fwends blood vinyl. Wait, what?
That’s right, it’s just what you thought: vinyl filled with blood.
Although still relatively rare in occurrence, liquid-filled vinyl has become more popular in recent years. The Flaming Lips released Heady Fwends as a limited edition special for the 2012 Record Store Day, but instead of having just one version of the vinyl, they released a second, even more exclusive version. One that contained a sample of blood from all the artists involved, including Chris Martin, Erykah Badu, and Ke$ha. Only 10 copies of this vinyl were created and they sold for $2500. These special vinyl also have to be kept refrigerated because of the blood. Maybe the ultimate gift for a fan of limited edition vinyl. Or maybe a bit creepy. You decide.
Please stop saying “a vinyl” or “vinyls.” Thanks!
Noted and fixed! Thank you for letting me know. 🙂
Get over yourself. Does it matter?
Yeah, it does.
