Listen to Dave Grohl’s First-Ever Song

When Kurt died and Nirvana ended, no one–and I mean NO ONE–had any idea that the guy at the back keeping time would be rock’s next great superstar. I mean, he was the drummer, fer gawd’s sake. Wasn’t he a surprise? Then again, he did require a little time to find his voice.

A new outtake from the Sonic Highways sessions has surfaced showing Dave listening to the first song he ever recorded. “Gods Look Down” was written and recorded when Dave was still a teenaged member of the DC band, Scream. While the song was later updated, the original eight-track master (with Dave singing and playing all the instruments) has never been heard (officially, at least)–until now. Watch Dave cringe. More details here.
