Longtime Toronto broadcaster, programmer, and writer Jeff Woods needs your help with a prostate cancer battle
Jeff Woods and I worked together at Corus Radio for years. While we both had on-air and program director gigs, there was another division of labour. While I concentrated on alt-rock with The Ongoing History of New Music, Jeff did something similar on the other side: The Legends of Classic Rock. The two shows bookended each other nicely. Jeff is also a writer with a couple of books to his name. In recent years we’d see each other at exhibitions of rock paintings and photographs.
There’s now a problem. Jeff, now living in Thornbury, Ontario, was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Fortunately, it hasn’t spread but he still requires some specialized cutting-edge surgery that is currently very expensive. This is substantially different from the standard treatments for the disease and isn’t covered by OHIP. And being an independent writer and podcaster, the financial strain is incredible.
The cost of the surgery is about $24,000. More cash will be needed to sustain Jeff during his recovery time, during which he won’t have much income coming in. His operating is scheduled for December 5.
The good news is that friends and fans have created a GoFundMe campaign, one that has raised over $25,000 so far. The goal is $35,000, but every dollar about that will be more than welcome. Do what you can, okay?
