Lostprophets Releases Start to Disappear from Record Stores

After ex-Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins pleaded guilty to a serious of horrific sexual crimes–including attempt baby rape (twice!)–music retailers are looking to distance themselves as much as possible from Watkins’ former band.

Over the course of their career, Lostprophets sold about 3.5 million records. The won’t be selling too many more.

On Thursday, HMV UK announced that they will no longer sell Lostprophets records in any of their 140 stores nor will they make any of the albums available online.  Existing stock is being removed from shelves.

As of this morning, iTunes Canada still lists the band’s entire discography and selection of music videos. We’ll see if that changes in wake of HMV’s move.  Same with other retailers and music streamers.  And I doubt will ever hear the band on the radio ever again.

I feel bad for the rest of the band.  They apparently knew nothing about their sicko singer’s antics and will now suffer as a result–not just financially but from just being associated with this prick.

Meanwhile, the two female co-defendants in the Watkins case–women offered up their own children to Watkins so they could all abuse them together–are also heading to jail.  Their names have not been made public in order to protect the identity of the kids.

However, Peaches Geldof–daughter of Sir Bob–decided she’d just go ahead and tweet the names of of these women.  She’s now facing a criminal investigation.  Jeezus.

Speaking of people being swept up in this story, Ian H. Watkins–a member of the late 90s boy band Steps–is being mistaken for the other Watkins.  E! Online even used his picture when covering the the trial, leaving it up for about 30 minutes before the mistake was discovered.  This included tweeting the story and the picture out to six million followers.

You can imagine what happened next.  A torrent of abuse and threats rained down on H.  The record has since be set straight.
