Make Your Own Vinyl Records At Home

You read that right.  Technology now allows any schlub with an electrical outlet to press vinyl records.  The T560 looks like something out of a Rube Goldberg lab, but it apparently works very well.

It doesn’t “press” records; instead to “cuts” then, just like the pros inscribe the master plates at the record plant.  This is much less messy than having to squish a biscuit (that’s what it’s called) of raw vinyl, add a label and then trim it into a perfectly round shape.  A better analogy would be burning a CD-R.

It’s not cheap–about $4,200 plus the cost of the turntable–but it would be kind of cool for certain types of people.  It’s also not for high-speed manufacture of vinyl, but if you were in the business of creating one-off promos that become instant collectors’ items, there’s potential.  Or if you’re a DJ looking to put down custom samples, this might be worth it.
