The Man Who Helped the Ramones Create Their First Demos Has Died
If you’re at all into the history of the New York punk scene of the middle 1970s, you’ll have come across the name Marty Thau. A life-long record man, he became entranced when he saw a performance by the New York Dolls, eventually becoming their manager.
Shortly after, he founded Red Star Records, home to bands like Suicide and Richard Hell. He also offered mentoring to the Heartbreakers and Blondie as well as producing some early demos for The Ramones like this one.
The man was a great friend to punk at a time when it needed all the friends it could get. Read more at Billboard.
Marty didn’t produce these demos, but he was there to offer the band guidance.
