Blue Rodeo, The Hip, and Beyond: A History of The Maple Leaf Forever Guitar

There’s a unique Canadian heritage story currently being written in its music. Although, the story is not coming from the songs themselves – it’s actually being passed along through a guitar.

The instrument ties Canadian musicians – and their fans – to a piece of this country’s history. Beginning with an historic tree in Toronto and quietly being a part of some of this country’s greatest rock tales, the one-of-a-kind Maple Leaf Forever Guitar has quite the story to tell.

The following radio piece was originally created for the University of King’s College radio journalism workshop in Halifax – click below to hear the history of the Maple Leaf Forever Guitar.

Once upon a time, Mat studied journalism. That's how he became Alan's one-time intern and current-time contributor, and the rest is ongoing history - get it? Mat also studied biology and music, so he has a strangely specific knowledge set that doesn't really apply anywhere other than useless fun facts. He currently works for a music tech start-up in Halifax, and is a big fan of the em dash.
