Matt Cameron: The Second-Busiest Drummer in Rock
There are few people who have managed to straddle careers in two mega-bands better than Matt Cameron. In fact, I can’t think of anyone else who has done it on this level.
Matt was a member of Soundgarden in the beginning. He took a little time out to help with some demos for some friends. Those friends became Pearl Jam.
Matt stayed with Soundgarden until they broke up in the spring of 1997. Soon after he joined up with Pearl Jam full-time. But when Soundgarden reunited a couple of years ago, Matt went back with them. And that was fine with Pearl Jam because they were about to go on a break.
Soundgarden wrung out the reunion thing for a couple of years and have more-or-less reached the end of the line–at least for the moment. Perfect timing, too, since Pearl Jam has their new Lightning Bolt album that needs care and feeding.
Here’s Matt’s post from the Soundgarden Facebook page.
Sounds like the dude has been taking career lessons from Dave Grohl, don’t it. (Thanks to Alan for the link.)
