Maynard James Keenan calls rape allegations “a despicable false claim”
If you’ve been following along this week, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan was hit by allegations of rape by an anonymous Twitter user with the handle @IWas17HeWas36. The claim from the unidentified woman claims that she was sexually assaulted by Maynard back in 2000 when she was 17. Explosive stuff.
Maynard has responded on Twitter.
Many thanks to those of you who saw right through this despicable false claim that only does damage to the #metoo movement. And shame on those of you who perpetuate this destructive clickbait. As for my delayed but un-required response, I had my phone off. You should try it.

Let’s see where this leads. Nothing yet from @IWas16HeWas36.
The way I see this situation is as follows. Maynard’s fans, of which I am one, are so fanatical, can they even see the reality of the situation? I could certainly see MJK being catered to, so in the hazy days of yore, would Maynard himself know the reality of the situation. It shines a light on the groupie culture and in a sense reminds us that these rock gods are not the gods we think them to be.
