McDonald’s is turning uneaten French fries into Spotify playlists. This is actually quite clever.

Want some Spotify with your fries?

Working with a Brazilian ad agency, McDonald’s is offering customers in Latin America a chance to tap into a couple of customer Spotify playlists. It works like this.

Eat-in customers get a special tray liner featuring the outlines of some French fries. Match up the outlined shapes with real fries and you end up with essentially a bar code. See?

Scan the fries code with the Spotify app and you’ll be taken to a playlist entitled “FriesList” that features such, er, hits as “FriTops of the Moment” and ‘Someone Stole My Fries.”

The idea is to get people to try Spotify–and it might win McDonald’s a few new customers.
