Mindset List of This Year’s College Freshman Class

Every year since 1998, Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, has published a list to help instructors understand the mindset and life experience of the incoming freshman class.  It helps put everything into perspective.

This year’s list contains the following reminders/observations:

  1. Having grown up with MP3s and iPods, they never listen to music on the car radio and really have no use for radio at all.
  2. Good music programmers are rock stars to the women of this generation, just as guitar players were for their mothers
  3. Michael Jackson’s family, not the Kennedys, constitutes “American Royalty.”
  4. “Mom!  Dad!  Stop referring to CDs and DVDs at tapes!”
  5. These people were born in 1994.  That means Kurt Cobain has always been dead to them.
