Recommended Music

More Music from the Inbox

As anyone might expect, the number of music recommendations slowed to a trickle over the holidays.  But as soon as January 3 hit, BAZINGA!  The flood began anew.

Some of what caught my attention can be found through the Recommended Music Link to the left.  These next few artists survived the cull administered by Julliette Jagger.  (By the way, read her thing on Drake called Perception is Reality.)

Artist: Corners “Bitter”

Album: Corners EP

This is actually a great song from an independent band. It’s course and delicate all at the same time. The chorus interrupts at the perfect moment, plus it’s gritty and big as hell.

Sounds like: Slowly coming to terms with it.

Artist: Bonobo “Eyes Down”

Album: Black Sands Remixed

This track is so completely effective; it just gets inside you and pins your heart against the beat till it ends with a gasp like someone stole your air.

Sounds like: One for the senses

Artist:  TRUST “Bulbform”

Album: TRST

TRUST is one of Arts & Crafts newest offerings. They keep it pretty dark and seedy with a strong hypnotic energy.

Sounds like: An uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach

Link/Listen/Watch: A very cool video  For some reason, I can’t share or embed it.

Artist:  My Son The Hurricane “For Whom the Bell Tolls”

Album: COVER

MSTH is a 13-piece brass/hip-hop band from Toronto. These guys are tight, and this is just a really badass Metallica cover with horns.

Sounds like: Trans Siberian Metallica

Link/Listen/Watch: YouTube video  Maybe something has gone weird with YouTube’s embedding/sharing function this morning.

Artist: Alright Alright “Bingo Bango”

Album: “Cellar Singles” Series

As soon as this song started I was expecting to see 60’s go-go dancers swinging their arms and doing the “Watusi” (look that one up), and they totally delivered.

Sounds like: The 1960’s Arctic Monkeys.
