Music and the Super Bowl Part 3: Tonight Is Not Just About Bruno Mars, You Know

Yes, Bruno is the headliner for the Super Bowl XLVIII halftime show–he says he’s ready for the challenge–but he’s not the only performer booked for game day.

  • “America the Beautiful” will be sung by Queen Latifah during some pre-game festivities.
  • The pre-game tailgate party will feature Phillip Phillips (winner of season 11 of American Idol) and country artists the Band Perry.
  • The “Star-Spangled Banner” will be performed by soprano Renée Fleming.  She’ll be backed by the New Jersey Symphony.
  • And the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been invited to appear with Bruno during halftime.  We’re not sure what they’re going to play, but it won’t be the rumoured 20 minute tribute to Led Zeppelin.  That was a joke.
