Need a mood boost this Christmas? Science says these 10 songs might help.

We often turn to music to help us feel better when we’re down. But such songs are highly personal and subjective. What if there was a way we could turn to science to help us find those perfect pick-me-up songs? Shouldn’t someone be researching them?

Good news! There’s been a study.

Dr Jacob Jolij, a researcher in cognitive neuroscience, look at a list of songs, considering things like tempo (150 BPM is the starting point(), the positivity of the lyrics, and whether the song is in a major or a minor key. Here are the results. (Via Rick J)

  8. Bon Jovi, Livin’ on a Prayer
  9. Gloria Gaynor, I Will Survive
  10. Katrina & The Waves, Walkin’ On Sunshine

Okay, maybe. But sometimes only something brutally heavy will do, You know what song is guaranteed me to make me happy? This one.
