Neil Peart: Bringing Canada and the US together again

The relationship between Canada and the US has deteriorated mightily since Trump took office back in January. However, there are good people in America who realize that we, Canada, are longtime friends and allies and aren’t going to let swampy Washington politics get in the way. And the late Rush drummer Neil Peart seems to be the guy who’s going to help.

Shredd & Reagan, the hosts of the morning show on Buffalo’s 97 Rock, are behind The Great North American Rush Off, a tribute to Neil and Rush. Not only do they want to honour everything Neil left behind, but they also want to raise funds for the Neil Peart Memorial at Lakeside Park in the Port Dalhousie area of St. Catharines. The goal is to raise $500,000 to kickstart the construction of the memorial.

They’ve put out a call for bands from all over the world to submit Rush covers that will be curated for a digital and physical release. Money from that will go to The Neil Peart Memorial.

For those who can’t cover Rush, there’s a $500 “Wood Level Sponsorship” (and that’s Canadian dollars) that gets donors a 250-character personalized message that will end up being displayed in the park. For $5,000, you get a “Steel” sponsorship that gets you even more display space. Check things out here. More details are coming soon.

Here’s a video vision of what the memorial will look like.
