Neil Young Learns from Robert Smith: No more platinum concert tickets

You might remember a couple of years back when Robert Smith put his foot down when it came to price points for tickets for a North American tour by The Cure. One of the things he did was eliminate “platinum-priced” tickets and anything to do with dynamic pricing. In the end, Cure tickets were 37% less than the average US concert ticket price.

Although the band left millions of dollars on the table, they maintained the love of their fans. Besides, they sold 547,000 tickets on that tour, grossing US$37.5 million, the most The Cure has ever made from a tour. It’s nice to see a band that recognizes they have enough, you know?

Neil Young took notice. He decided to follow Robert Smith’s lead and prohibit any kind of official pricing that’s at the high end. His advice to fans? “Buy aggressively when the tickets come out or tickets will cost a lot more in a secondary market.

This is the full statement on Young’s website. Happy shopping.
