New Alberta NDP MLA’s Metal Past Comes Back to Haunt Her

Politics is weird. Once you enter public life, everything you’ve ever done in your life to that point is up for criticism and ridicule. What seemed like a good idea in your youth (or even something that you felt was completely innocuous) can come back and bite you in the ass.

Take the case of newly-elected Alberta NDP MLA for Calgary-Bow, Deborah Drever. Now she’s an elected member of the people. But back in 2012, she appeared on the cover of a cassette issued by a metal band called Gatekrashor. See?

What’s the issue? The violent nature of the image, the kind that may lead one to expect that sexual violence is about to occur.

She did the cover shoot as a lark, but now that she’s working as a politician, she’s having to make things good with her constituents and the opposition parties. Read more at The National Post. (Via Danny)
