New Christmas Songs Coming From, Er, Bad Religion

Religious-themed Christmas caroles from a band called Bad Religion? Well, didn’t they already release a rendition of “O Come All Ye Faithful” a few years back?

And they’re not done.  Next Tuesday (October 29) will see the release of Christmas Songs, featuring eight new studio recordings of traditional Christmas tracks along with a new mix of the single “American Jesus.”

No wonder Brett Gerewitz calls this “the most subversive album we’ve done.” But then he goes on to say

To me, what the album is indirectly stating is that this music, and thus the world, can be powerful and beautiful stripped of god and religion. These are just really good songs, and a historically non-religious band like Bad Religion can perform them with as much power and feeling as anyone.

And check out where the proceeds from this album will go:  Suvivors Network of Those Abused by Priests.

Here’s a sample from the album.
