New Music from Pussy Riot (Um, Is This CanCon?)

Even as three of their members are apparently on their way to jail, guilty of some kind of “hooliganism,” they’re not backing down.  A new song entitled “Putin Lifhts Up the Fires” has been released.

As stupid and unjust as their conviction is, this probably, er, complicates things a little bit more.

And I have to ask:  Is this Canadian content?  After all, Nadezdha Tolokonnikova, the most visible member of Pussy Riot is married to Pyotr Verilov.  He spent five years living with relatives in Toronto and went to Swansea Public School and Humberside Collegiate.  He has dual Russian-Canadian citizenship.

Tolokonnikova is said to have a Canadian permanent resident card.  If she’s a co-writer of this song, you can make a CanCon case.  Just sayin’…
