Artist: M(h)aol
Song: 1800-Call-Me-Back
Album: Something Soft
M(h)aol drummer/vocalist Constance Keane says, “This track is about getting ghosted, which I personally think should be a criminal offence for anyone over the age of 25. The intro sound came from me and Sean watching the Euros and talking about football chants. I am not actually interested in football, but there’s something about international football where teams can’t buy people that I got super on board with that year. This is our football song.” The Irish post-punk group’s new album, Something Soft, is out now!

Artist: Alice Phoebe Lou
Song: The Surface
Alice Phoebe Lou explains: “‘The Surface’ is a stream of conscious love song about the deep and contradictory feelings that rise up when exploring a connection with someone you feel strongly about. It goes through the many phases of holding back and then giving in, starting at the end when someone is finally all in. It talks of the hardships that one has gone through in order to arrive at a place where there is promise of a future and a deep connection and trust. It’s the melting away of our hard outer shells to reach the softer place beneath where we let go and allow ourselves to love and be loved. With just voice and guitar, the music is stripped down and bare like the song.”
