New Music from the Inbox: Ken Yates, Silla, King Isis, and more!

Artist: Ken Yates
Song: The Great Resolution
Album: Total Cinema
Ken Yates’ fourth album, Total Cinema, is out now! He reflects: “I feel like there are songs on this record that I had to live my whole life so far to write. That’s a cool feeling after doing this for a while—to have songs that still surprise you and feel like you had to earn them.”
Listen:

Artist: Silla feat. Kevin Qamaniq-Mason
Song: The Great Angakkuq
This is a collaboration between acclaimed Inuit throat-singing duo Silla and Kalalliit (Greenlandic) superproducer Andachan. Charlotte Qamaniq explains: “It begins with footsteps crunching snow and a building storm. Then comes the calm: a moment featuring qiarvaaq — an ancient form of Inuit throat singing with lyrics.” Those lyrics, written by Charlotte, are a love letter to Inuit Nunaat (our land)
Una Nuna — This Land
Tigumiattiarlugu — Hold it dearly
Piummarittu — Is so beautiful
Uumaju — It is alive

Artist: King Isis
Song: PERMANENTLY BROKEN
EP: SIRENITY
King Isis explains of their new EP: “It’s mostly an unserious, sometimes self-deprecating exploration of pieces of me. It’s a nod to my younger selves, an acknowledgement of constant growth and transformation, that life is full of ebbs and flows.” SIRENITY is out on June 13!
Listen:

Artist: Gwenno feat. Cate Le Bon & H Hawkline
Song: Y Gath
Album: Utopia
Gwenno explains: “Y Gath means The Cat. I just don’t know how I feel about cats, you know? But I also think it’s because I am a cat in many ways. I see myself in these creatures and I’m part envious, part disgusted by them. So it’s a song about cats and birds nodding at you, and the style of the song evolved quite naturally into something very familiar and Welsh. And then when I asked Huw (H Hawkline) and Cate (Le Bon) to be on it, it just made complete sense. We all knew what it needed to be, because we’ve all grown up on S4C and 70s psychedelic rock music, and Welsh language music. So we didn’t need to have a big conversation, we just know what this is about.” Her upcoming album, Utopia, will be out on July 11!
