From the biggest superstars to the ambitious self-starters we comb through it all to highlight to you what we’ve been digging, the tunes that caught our eye, and the recommended selections that make the notifications worth it. This is New Music From The Inbox!

Artist: Clever Hopes

Song: “Made You Mad”

Album/EP: Artefact

Gravelly and reserved vs. crystalline and lightning vocals make for a beautiful contrast amongst driving rootsy folk in Clever Hopes’ “Made You Mad”. Chiming piano, swelling organ, and a duo of melodic lead guitars bolster the backing of this charming little tune.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Collapsing Scenery

Song: “You Already Know”

Album/EP: Acid Casual

Piercing cymbals and an eclectic set of droning backing instrumentals make for a warmly trippy experience in “You Already Know” from the aptly named Acid Casual EP. Burbling, yowling, percussive, entrancing, scathing – there’s really quite the meandering gamut of sonic sensations throughout the song.

Artist: Purple Disco Machine & Sophie and the Giants

Song: “In The Dark”

Album/EP: Single

An exceptionally catchy single that grabs you with its first synth lick, “In The Dark” is another successful collaboration from Purple Disco Machine and Sophie and the Giants. The funk inspiration runs deep in this glamorous pop dancer – stinging rhythm guitars, shimmering high-end keys, and that ever-present riff know how to bring the groove.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Sauna

Song: “Only Luck”

Album/EP: Single

Processed vocals and metamorphosing synth tracks lend some 80s post-pop stylings to this bright yet reflective tune from Toronto’s Sauna. Layered instrumentals build into a grand, speaker-filling exuberance over the course of this slyly grooving tune single.

Mathew Kahansky

Once upon a time, Mat studied journalism. That's how he became Alan's one-time intern and current-time contributor, and the rest is ongoing history - get it? Mat also studied biology and music, so he has a strangely specific knowledge set that doesn't really apply anywhere other than useless fun facts. He currently works for a music tech start-up in Halifax, and is a big fan of the em dash.
