New Music From The Inbox – Monday Edition! (Nov 07, 2022): Matt Corby, Jason Collett, SG Lewis, and more!

Every week, we’re sent dozens if not hundreds of promotional emails from agents, PR firms, and hopeful artists containing the latest releases from around the world. From the biggest superstars to the ambitious self-starters we comb through it all to highlight to you what we’ve been digging, the tunes that caught our eye, and the recommended selections that make the notifications worth it. This is New Music From The Inbox! (Short on time? Listen to this article in playlist form!)

Artist: Matt Corby

Song: ‘Problems’

Album/EP: Single

Liquid vocals, smoothly pulsing keys, and a heady dose of R&B influences make Aussie Matt Corby’s ‘Problems’ a soulful ride. The acoustic piano bridge swelling back into the full instrumental verse is a particular highlight.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Jason Collett

Song: ‘Everyday Sunflower’

Album/EP: Head Full Of Wonder

One of the most pleasantly peaceful little ditties to come across the Inbox in a hot minute. Collett’s breathy vocals, muted finger picking, and calmly swaying backings create a picturesque, blissed-out landscape.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: SG Lewis

Song: ‘Lifetime’

Album/EP: AudioLust & HigherLove

Shimmering layers of glitz and glimmer click into a groove in SG Lewis’ ‘Lifetime’. Fretty riffs, melty vocals, and a splashy disco-ball-light-show kind of production make for an immediately familiar, classics kind of feel.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Marbles

Song: ‘World Inside Me’

Album/EP: Single

Trippy and dreamy pop from the frigid north, Norwegian group Marbles provide a tune so smooth and sleepy it may as well be a lullaby. Chiming melodies, lo-fi bass, and a starlit serenity of meandering synths make for quieting listen.

Mathew Kahansky

Once upon a time, Mat studied journalism. That's how he became Alan's one-time intern and current-time contributor, and the rest is ongoing history - get it? Mat also studied biology and music, so he has a strangely specific knowledge set that doesn't really apply anywhere other than useless fun facts. He currently works for a music tech start-up in Halifax, and is a big fan of the em dash.
