Artist: Cast of Witness Uganda (An American Musical)
Song: “Bricks”
Album/EP: Single
The lead single from upcoming Griffin Matthews and Matt Gould musical ‘Witness Uganda – An American Musical’, “Bricks” is an exciting taste of what’s to come from the theatrical production. The provocative spoken-word intro, infectiously upbeat percussion, and searing ensemble vocal performance construct an enticing and engaging danceable worldly tune. Hints of ripping guitar and pulsing keys peek out amidst the constant syncopated drumming to lend some contemporary flavour as well. Keep an ear out for more!
Watch/Listen:
Artist: Royal Castles
Song: “Schönsee”
Album/EP: Just The Hits
Royal Castles keep it minimal when describing the new single “Schönsee” – the YouTube description simply reads ‘An electric lullaby’, and who are we to disagree? Saccharine English- and German-language vocals from singer Katrin Sawatzky nestle amongst jangling guitars, youthful bells, and a simultaneously calming-yet-stirring bah-bah syllabic refrain to produce an entrancing little indie-rock tune.
Watch/Listen:
Artist: Cat Dowling
Song: “Animals”
Album/EP: Animals
Shifting and simmering singer-songwriter-infused pop stretches and sears in Dublin-based Cat Dowling’s “Animals”, from the recent LP of the same name. Thrumming orchestral strings, plucky acoustic guitar, and Dowling’s enchanting vocals simmer and bubble before boiling over into an exuberant rollicking climax – quite the payoff after such an affecting approach in the building run-up.

Artist: Move Like Creatures
Song: “Mind Reader”
Album/EP: Single
Shimmering funk-inspired guitars and vivacious vocals from frontwoman Nancy Bombard add to the significant head-bopping nature of Move Like Creatures’ debut single “Mind Reader”. Mix in some driving bass and an effervescent production tone and you’ve got yourself a cracking, catchy little ditty from the brand-new SoCal quartet.
