Every week, we’re sent dozens if not hundreds of promotional emails from agents, PR firms, and hopeful artists containing the latest releases from around the world. From the biggest superstars to the ambitious self-starters we comb through it all to highlight to you what we’ve been digging, the tunes that caught our eye, and the recommended selections that make the notifications worth it. This is New Music From The Inbox!

Artist: SEKI

Song: ‘Play It Cool’

Album/EP: Single

Breezy and nonchalant indie doing its best to brush off an embarrassing encounter, the burbling keys and breathy vocal doubling highlight SEKI’s ‘Play It Cool’. It’s all too easy to fall into the easy vibes amongst the plucky guitar and splashy hi-hat!

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Ascension

Song: ‘Sayonara’

Album/EP: Under the Veil of Madness

Soaring and melodic power metal in both vocal and guitar tone, ‘Sayonara!’ immediately brings Dragonforce to mind with its interlacing solos and operatic lyrical delivery. Ascension reach for the heights with this searing tune!

Watch/Listen:

Artist: GA-20

Song: ‘Fairweather Friend’

Album/EP: Crackdown

Heavy Bostonian blues with a rattling tone that just can’t be beat, GA-20 struts their fuzzy stuff with ‘Fairweather Friend’. There’s an approachable cool in this one that stems from those clanging amps and effortless vocals.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Nitro Nitra

Song: ‘Walk Into The Sun’

Album/EP: Single

Modern power pop with soulful vocal underpinnings and a lush expanse of vocal harmonies, Nitro Nitra really kick off with ‘Walk Into The Sun’. The tune takes a darker turn in the back end with some repeating dissonant refrains, but it can’t wipe away the highs of the exuberant chorus peaks.

Watch/Listen:

Artist: Cult Of Y

Song: ‘Mountain’

Album/EP: Work In Progress

Urgent experimental pop from Swedish duo Cult Of Y accompanies the chopped hopeful samples of Mahalia Jackson vocals in ‘Mountain’. Thumping beats and a grimy guitar through line make for a striking impression!

Once upon a time, Mat studied journalism. That's how he became Alan's one-time intern and current-time contributor, and the rest is ongoing history - get it? Mat also studied biology and music, so he has a strangely specific knowledge set that doesn't really apply anywhere other than useless fun facts. He currently works for a music tech start-up in Halifax, and is a big fan of the em dash.
