New Music from the Inbox: Perfume Genius, Faux Real, Rafiq Bhatia, and more!

Artist: Faux Real
Song: Walking Away From My Demons (Wet Leg remix)
Wet Leg infuse a frenzied yet nonchalant club energy into a Faux Real classic from their iconic debut album, Faux Ever, released late last year. Faux Real describe the collab: “Rhian’s deadpan verses play perfectly against the frantic energy of Josh’s nightcore rework, giving the clubby beat this cool confidence—‘I walk around my neighborhood, you’re looking down, I’m looking good’—like finally taking control over the title’s demons. Sometimes, the only way to shake off feelings of inadequacy is to just get up and go, however underprepared. Sow, reap, repeat.“

Artist: Rafiq Bhatia feat. Chris Pattishall
Song:The Voice of Love
EP: Each Dream, A Melting Door
You may know Rafiq Bhatia as a member of the experimental pop outfit Son Lux, best known for scoring Everything Everywhere All At Once. All three members of Son Lux have solo projects that deserve a deep dive. Experimental, richly textured, and utterly stunning—some of the most creative minds in music today. Case in point, here’s some more info from the press release: “New technological integrations have allowed Bhatia to merge his last decade of development as an electroacoustic composer back into his practice as an improvising guitarist, using real-time sampling and manipulation to express and develop multiple worlds of sound at once. As a result, it’s easy to forget that everything audible on this EP besides the piano is…guitar. Forwards and in reverse, up and down the octaves, Bhatia multiplies the sound of the instrument, transfiguring it into an orchestra of whistling wind tunnels, booming subsonics, storms of noise and melodic waves that combust and fragment.”
