New Music From The Inbox: Catfish and The Bottlemen, Young Hare, Illitry, I Am The Avalanche, Tower of Dudes
By: Juliette Jagger
Artist: Catfish and The Bottlemen “Kathleen”
Album: Single
Now this is what I’m talkin’ about. Van McCann’s voice is raw as shit and this song has the same kind of punch that first made the Arctic Monkeys so appealing.
Sounds like: “I’ve gotta give it to you/you give me problems/when you are not in the mood.”

Artist: Young Hare “Isla Nubla”
Album: Unbreak My Heart
Borrowing elements of House, R&B and even a little disco, this one from Young Hare is a sensory experience.
Sounds like: Minimalist electro-pop.

Artist: Illitry “Follow Me”
Album: Single
Hamilton band Illitry continues to impress me time and again. They have this highly expansive yet incredibly minimalist style and they’ve really grown into it over the past year.
Sounds like: This one aches boys, or maybe it longs…

Artist: I Am The Avalanche “The Shape I’m In”
Album: Wolverines
I haven’t heard a solid, melodic rock anthem like this one in a while. This would have slid right into the mid-2000’s easily.
Sounds like: “Oh, you don’t know the shape I’m in.”

Artist: The Tower of Dudes “Make Your Own Culture”
Album: Make Your Own Culture
These guys are exactly what they claim to be, a hard-hitting East meets West gypsy punk accordion rock band, and I dig it.
Sounds like: “Need a place to live? Build that shit. Need something to eat? Grow that shit. Don’t like your job? Quit!”
