New Music From The Inbox (February 13, 2017): Grimes, Crazy Bones, MAD ONES & more!

By: Juliette Jagger (@juliettejagger)

Artist: Grimes Ft. Janelle Monáe
Song: Venus Fly
Album/EP: Art Angels

This past week, multi-media artist and producer Grimes shared a brand new video for her song, “Venus Fly,” which features Janelle Monáe. Though Grimes fans are likely already familiar with the track as it appeared on her critically acclaimed 2015 album, Art Angels, the video, which was directed and edited by Grimes herself, is quite the visual feat. Carve out the seven-and-half minutes––it’s worth it.

Artist: Crazy Bones
Song: “Melting”
Album/EP: Cosmic Drips

Off of their forthcoming EP, Cosmic Drips, which is due out on March 2nd (maybe), “Melting” from Toronto-based garage-psych trio Crazy Bones is a heavy dose of tripped-up, fuzzed-out, face-melting goodness.

These guys are like anAlice in Chains/The Cramps infused acid trip. Enjoy.

Artist: MAD ONES
Song: “End of You”
Album/EP: Regretless

Toronto’s MAD ONES have returned with a jangly new track entitled, “End of You.” Delivering a cavalcade of vintage guitars, crashing drum fills, and hooky group harmonies, the song––which was initially set against the backdrop of The Industrial Revolution, written from the viewpoint of someone in the throws of an existential meltdown, and sort of speaks directly to the growing opposition to right-wing populism we are now seeing in the US––manages to make the weight of the world seem a whole lot lighter.

Artist: Freedom Fry
Song: “Junkie”
Album/EP: Single

If you frequent Spotify’s Ultimate Indie playlist, you’re probably already familiar with French-American indie pop duo Freedom Fry. Their 2016 single “Shaky Ground” amassed hundreds of thousands of streams and was featured on the platform’s Best of 2016 year-end-list. If you’re not, their latest offering “Junkie” is a nice introduction to what these two are all about––delivering simple, sparse, pop anthems that revolve around duelling boy-girl vocals.

Artist: Honeyblood
Song: “Babes Never Die”
Album/EP: Babes Never Die

Glasgow pop-punk duo Honeyblood are back with an empowered new single entitled, “Babes Never Die.” Off of their critically acclaimed and heavily buzzed sophomore album of the same name, the track is accompanied by a new live video which was shot during the band’s recent world tour and perfectly captures the raw intensity of their stage show. Check that out below! #babesneverdie
