Off of their forthcoming debut LP, Flying Microtonal Banana, which is due out on February 24, “Nuclear Fusion,” from King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard sees this band holding steadfast in their tradition of creating strangely appealing vintage psychedelic prog rock tunes. For that reason, these guys continue to be one of Melbourne’s most interesting acts.
Artist: The Desert Sea
Song: “All Mine”
EP: Steal The Light From The Sun
Off of their forthcoming EP, Steal The Light From The Sun, “All Mine,” from The Desert Sea is the sort of melodic riff-heavy blues rock thumper that is sure to embed itself in your brain.
Song: “Get Away”
Fresh-faced and straight out of Brisbane, “Get Away,” from Vertigo is a spirited debut. Powered by sharp stabbing guitar licks and raspy punched-up vocals, these guys recall the likes of The Strokes, Band of Skulls, and even Arctic Monkeys.
Artist: Kings of Lowertown
Song: “Burning Black Diesel”
The Kings of Lowertown have returned with a brand new track titled, “Burning Black Diesel,” and it’s heavy dirt-blues with a whole lot of riffage.
Artist: ZYLA and The Meatbags
Song: “Weed, Tea and Cats”
Sometimes the things that relish in their own ridiculousness are also the most endearing. That is definitely the case with “Weed, Tea and Cats” from Hamilton-based blues rock outfit ZYLA and The Meatbags. There’s just something about this tune, am-I right?
