New Prince Music Coming Friday. (UPDATE: Maybe.)
Yes, he’s still dead, but Prince left behind a massive trove of unreleased material. The first batch of songs will be released Friday through a Vancouver-based indie label called RMA (Rogue Music Alliance) in the form of an EP entitled Deliverance. Nice timing, too, since Friday will be the one-year anniversary of Prince’s death.
These six songs (tracklisting below) were co-written and co-produced with Ian Boxill, a longtime engineer at Prince’s Paisley Park studios. After Prince died, Boxill finished the tracks and offered Deliverance up to the world.
“Wait a second,” you’re saying, “Doesn’t Prince’s estate have a deal with Universal to release all his material posthumously?” Well, yes, but this music was recorded when Prince was officially an indie artist. And because Boxill is created as a co-writer, these songs don’t fall under that agreement.
Rolling Stone has more on the EP here.
Prince Deliverance Track List

UPDATE: Aaaaaaand Prince’s estate has sued to prevent the release of the EP.
