One of the things Toronto needs to do better is to find ways to commemorate important musical heritage sites. The UK does a great job of this, putting up blue plaques on buildings and other sites where something extraordinary once happened.
Michael Werkele, the Dragon’s Den guy and the new owner of the El Mocambo (which, we’re told, will finally reopen in the fall) along with Toronto councilor Joe Cressy, want to turn a strip of Spadina Avenue into a “Rock Walk.” It’s a good start, given the history of the ElMo, the Silver Dollar and Comfort Zone.
Werkele is apparently willing to cover some of the costs, to0, and has visions of turning it into some kind of walk of fame.
Hey, I like it. Start with Spadina and then move to Yorkville, then Yonge Street then Queen West…
