Nickelback Target of Reverse Crowdfunding Project
A couple of weeks ago, the Foo Fighters played a gig in Richmond, Virginia, a place they’d never been before. But thanks to a grassroots crowdfunding campaign, local Foos fans were album to organize well enough to convince the band to route through the city. Nice work, Richmond.
There’s now a similar project underway based out of London, England–except that it’s designed to work in reverse. Don’t Let Nickelback seeks to raise money in an effort to keep the band out of the UK on their next tour. I quote:
FAQ
Q. What’s wrong with Nickelback?
A. Go listen to them.
Q. I did listen to them. What’s wrong with Nickelback?
A. Ah, forgive us. You mean what’s wrong with them as in, what could possibly lead them to create such unlistenable music? We don’t know.
As I write this, there are seven backers who have helped raise $33 USD. The target is $1,000. There are 29 days left in the campaign.
I was surprisingly sad when I read recently that Chad Kroeger and Avril Lavigne were calling it quits on their unlikely marriage. Then, it dawned on me: Maybe she finally heard a Nickleback record. (Or maybe he heard Avril on the radio..?)

I don’t understand the Nickelhate. I wouldn’t say I’m a fan, but I just don’t get the amount of hate these guys get. As I see it, I support any successful guitar driven rock band. Would much rather hear this stuff on the radio that any of that rap/hip-hop or bubblegum pop nonsense.
I agree, i don’t get the over whelming hate spewing out against Nickelback. Not everyone is going to like every band. If you don’t like good
riff rock, move on. Chad Kroeger has written some really good songs. I mean these guys aren’t Kiss dressed up in getups singing out of tune songs. Or they are not twisted sister or remotely close to this. You don’t hear people ripping on these bands. These guys are not a go out of way favorite, but there definitely do not deserve the crap they get with all the really crappy acts that are out there.
