Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic wants to be president of the United States. Sort of.

Krist Novoselic, best known as the tall guy in Nirvana, has always been the most politically active member of the group, working on behalf of a number of Democratic and progressive politicians. He’s also mixed it up on politics himself. However, this move takes things to a whole new level.

Krist is running for president of the US as part of the Cascade Party of Washington State. There is, however, a hitch.

In order for the Cascade Party to be recognized as a legitimate political party that fields candidates, it needs to host conventions and other meetings for its membership. This requires a marketing and awareness campaign. To help with that, Krist has created the Bona Fide Band to play shows during which they will get the world out. The gigs double as conventions.

The group features Mark Pickerel, the drummer of the Screaming Trees. With a few shows under their belt, the Bona Fide Band (and the Cascade Party), are starting to gain a little momentum. If all goes well, Krist will gather the one thousand signatures, allowing the Cascade Party to quality to be on the presidential ballot.

Krist isn’t really looking to be president; his goal is to get the Cascade Party off the ground and in order to do that, the rules say that the party has to field a presidential candidate. So for now, that’s Krist.
