Nirvana’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Moment Comes Tonight. What Will Happen?

For people who care about such things–and frankly, I’m ambivilent–The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for tonight in Brooklyn.  Among the inductees will be Nirvana.  Dave Grohl will be there. All six-foot-seven of Krist Novoselic will be there.  And Courtney will be there in a fetching dress that she told me all about when I sat with her in her hotel room back in January.  (It’ll be interesting to see if she’s on stage with Dave and Krist when they accept their induction.)

Kurt, sadly, will be a no show–and this has creating a problem given that it’s expected Nirvana will perform as part of the proceedings.  What to do?

Betting is that Joan Jett will sub for Kurt–which, if you ask me, is an inspired choice.  Sure, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Eddie Vedder or Buzz Osbourne could step in.  But to throw a curve ball and have a woman out front? Brilliant.

Meanwhile, USA Today has this list of unlikely artists who say they were influenced by Nirvana.  This helps explain why the band is being inducted in the first place.
