Nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2016 Are Out

Here are the rules: if you put out your first release 25 years ago, you’re eligible to be nominated. This year’s list will have more than a few Gen Xers feeling a little old.

  • The Cars
  • Chaka Khan
  • Chicago
  • Cheap Trick
  • Chic
  • Deep Purple
  • The J.B.’s
  • Janet Jackson
  • Los Lobos
  • Steve Miller
  • N.W.A.
  • Nine Inch Nails
  • The Smiths
  • The Spinners
  • Yes

Next step? Ballots will be sent out to the 800 voting members of the Hall. The top five artists will be included in a fan ballot, the results of which will be weighted with the official Hall voting. We’ll get the 2016 inductees in December with the ceremony itself sometime in the spring.

  • The fact that Deep Purple and Yes are still waiting is a travesty. But then again, so are a large number of existing inductees….
