Here are the Nominees for the 2017 Mercury Prize

The Mercury Prize–the inspiration for our Polaris Prize–is an annual cash award (£25,000) to the artist who released the best album in the UK in the past year, regardless of genre or commercial success. The nominees for 2017 are out.

Alt-J: Relaxer
The Big Moon: Love in the 4th Dimension
Blossoms: Blossoms
Loyle Carner: Yesterday’s Gone
Dinosaur: Together, As One
Glass Animals: How to Be a Human Being
J Hus: Common Sense
Sampha: Process
Ed Sheeran: ÷
Stormzy: Gang Signs & Prayer
Kate Tempest: Let Them Eat Chaos
The xx: I See You

I’ll be honest. I’m only familiar with about half of these records. Time for some music discovery! This article from The Guardian may provide some context.

The Mercury Prize will be awarded September 14, about a week before the Polaris Prize.
