And Now, Kaleo Performing Inside a Volcano

Iceland’s Thrihnuagigur volcano hasn’t so much as belched in about 4,000 years, but it’s not classified as extinct. It’s dormant, sleeping. But since the chances of it becoming a conduit for molten magma again are slim–at least in the short term–other uses have been found for it. Like turning one of the magma chambers into a concert hall.

In a few days, the Deftones will play a set inside Thrihnuagigur for an audience of 20 as part of their appearance at the Summer Solstice Festival. Each attendee is paying about $3,000 for the privelige.

However, they’re far from being the first make the trip 400 feet into the ground to perform in what must be one of the coolest concert venues on the planet. Robert points us to this video of Kaleo performing their big hit, “Way Down We Go,” in the same spot.
