See If You Can Make It Big In This Choose Your Own NXNE Adventure Game

Have you ever dreamed of being a rock star? Plenty of real-life stars will be descending on Toronto for NXNE in less than a month, but local artists Amy Tschupruk and Alex Clarke have taken the dreaming into their own hands. They created a NXNE-themed choose-your-own-adventure game, where it’s up to you to take your band to stardom.

Do you headline a show across town at the Horseshoe, or rather open for a bigger name at the Danforth? How do you get your gear there, battle traffic or take the TTC? Will you ever be huge in Japan? You pick which path to take in the web browser game, found at nxneadventure.com.

Tschupruk and Clarke did all of the game’s illustrating and coding on their own, which at first glance seems like a marketing campaign from NXNE itself. The adventure game is a project for one of the pair’s courses at HackerYou, a private Toronto coding college. Hopefully we see more from them – maybe a strategy game to schedule your NXNE club-hopping experience around the city?

And if you’re curious, my run through the adventure saw my band’s gear ruined by a drunk roadie. The Slop Buckets will just have to find fame another time!

Once upon a time, Mat studied journalism. That's how he became Alan's one-time intern and current-time contributor, and the rest is ongoing history - get it? Mat also studied biology and music, so he has a strangely specific knowledge set that doesn't really apply anywhere other than useless fun facts. He currently works for a music tech start-up in Halifax, and is a big fan of the em dash.
