The OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs Raise Over $70,000 for Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research

Earlier this year, the Kingston Frontenacs took to the ice against the Mississauga Steelheads in a regular season game. But that night, they looked different. The team was outfitted in special Tragically Hip jerseys in honour of the band and Gord Downie. Once the game was over, those 23 jerseys were put up for auction.

Now that the auction is over, the team announced that they managed to raise exactly $73,383.98 for the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto.

People were very generous with bids coming in from across the country and even as far away as Hong Kong. Here are some examples.

  • #16, worn by Josh Supryka: $6,290
  • #60 (Jeremy Helvig), $5,1207
  • #7 (Nathan Billitier), $2,447

Nice, huh? Thanks to Reid at 98.9 The Drive for the photo of the big cheque.
