One App Generates 10 Percent of Digital Music Sales. Care to Guess Which One?

It’s Shazam, the magical app that “listens” to a song and then tells you the title and the artist. If you haven’t tried it yet, download the free version now. It’s really quite special.

In fact, it’s so special that the company says that one out of every ten digital track sales on the planet is the result of a tag-and-referral from Shazam.  This translates into $300 million.

Add in similiar apps like Soundhound and the number of tag-and-referrals climbs to 15%.  That’s a huge boost the industry.  Imagine if these apps didn’t exist.  That would be 15% fewer sales.
