One Concert Security Scare, Another Concert Under Heavy Security

Police in Rotterdam found a van filled with gas cylinders that may have been heading to the site of a concert by a California band called Allah-Las. As a precaution, the gig at the Maassilo venue was canceled.

A tip from Spanish police (who have their hands full with terrorism investigations) led Dutch cops to the truck. The driver was detained and question.

This isn’t news to Allah-Las. They’ve been threatened before in places like Turkey because some find their name offensive. In their defense, the band says they were just looking for “a holy-sounding name” and don’t mean any to offend anyone.

Here’s what they sound like.

Meanwhile, authorities in Glasgow have gone all-in with security for an Eminem show. With 35,000 people heading to the gig today, cops are determined to head off anyone who might want to do something…disruptive. They’re not saying if they’ve heard anything, but with recent events in Spain, you can’t be too careful, you know?

  • If they want to use a name like that, perhaps they should not be on a billing with other artists. They’re clearly using a provocative name that will upset Islamic nut cases. They have a freedom to choose their name, but promoters that put others in danger are idiots.
They’re going to get the wrong kind of attention, and if it kills somebody, will these idiots be held accountable? Nope. Just stupid in the crazy world.

  • The music isn’t bad, just shouldn’t have chosen that name, as it’s kind of obvious that they could get threatened with that name.
