Ongoing History Daily: A great novel set in the music industry
I can count the number of well-written novels set in the music industry on one hand. In fact, I have a couple of fingers and a thumb left. There just haven’t been that many really good ones. But I can recommend this book: Kill Your Friends by John Niven.
It follows a record weasel through England during the last days of Britpop. There’s lots of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, and can be pretty realistic in the way things used to be in some segments of the music industry–except for the murder part. I think. I hope.
Anyway, it’s a good summertime read. There is a movie version if you want (see the trailer below), but I think the book is much better.
