Ongoing History Daily: An Oasis break-up story

Now that Oasis is set to reunite for a bunch of shows in 2025, stories about some of the band’s past antics are resurfacing. Given the way the group behaved in their earlier years, it’s amazing that they’re still alive let alone survived. Here’s one such story.

In 1994, Oasis was on tour in America one month after the release of the Definitely Maybe album. Supporting them was The Brian Jonestown Massacre. The two bands did not get along. When the tour rolled into LA, Noel Gallagher asked the Massacre guys if they had any cocaine. What he got instead was pure crystal meth. He was awake for the next three days and not in the best of moods or the best form onstage. Liam ended up whacking Noel over the head with his tambourine during an important showcase gig at the Whisky A Go Go.

This led to a big blowout during which Noel quit Oasis for a few days. It wasn’t until he talked to an early fan named Melissa Lim that Noel reconsidered and went back to the group. At least it lead to a new song called Talk Tonight.
