Ongoing History Daily: Assorted Weezer facts

How well do you know Weezer? Let’s find out.

(1) Have you ever noticed that there are pretty much zero cuss words in Weezer songs? Rivers Cuomo doesn’t like swearing in songs because he feels that being clean is ironic and rebellious compared to everyone else.

(2) Speaking of lyrics, Rivers is very scientific about things. He has a spreadsheet with thousands and thousands of lines detailing syllable counts in case he ever needs such a thing.

(3) You know how you can tell if you have one of the first 600,000 copies of the Maladroit album? They’re all individually numbered.

(4) The first Weezer show was opening up for Keanu Reeves’ band Dogstar. They played in front of about 17 people.

And (5) And Weezer was one of the first bands to have a website, although it was started by fans. It was called “Rebel Weezer Alliance.”
